At Used Outboard Motors, we want you to be confident when purchasing a used outboard motor from us. This Returns & Refund Policy explains when products may be returned, how to request a return and how refunds are handled.
This policy should be read together with our Terms & Conditions and Warranty Policy.

2. Returns Period
Where a product is advertised with a specific return period, the applicable period will be stated on the individual product page or sales documentation.
Some of our used outboard motors may be offered with a 28-day or 30-day return period, depending on the product.
Always check the individual product listing before purchasing, as return terms may vary between engines.
Where UK consumer law provides a mandatory cancellation or other statutory right, nothing in this policy is intended to remove or restrict that right.
3. How to Request a Return
If you wish to return a product, please contact us before sending it back.
You can contact us by:
Email: sales@usedoutboardmotors.co.uk
Phone: +44 7882760417
Please provide:
-
Your name
-
Order number
-
Product purchased
-
Date of purchase
-
Reason for the return
-
Photographs where relevant
-
Details of any suspected fault or damage
We will provide instructions on the appropriate return process.
Please do not send an engine back without first contacting us.
4. Condition of Returned Outboard Motors
Because outboard motors are used mechanical products, they must be returned in an appropriate condition.
Where a return is permitted, the engine should generally be:
-
The same engine supplied to the customer;
-
Complete with the accessories supplied with the product;
-
Free from unauthorised modifications;
-
Free from additional damage caused after delivery;
-
Returned using appropriate packaging and transportation.
Where an engine or its components have been materially damaged after delivery, the circumstances may affect the customer’s entitlement to a refund, subject to applicable law.
5. Unauthorised Modifications or Repairs
Please contact us before carrying out repairs, modifications or alterations to an engine that you believe is faulty.
Unauthorised work may affect our ability to determine the cause of a problem and may affect a contractual warranty or return arrangement, subject to your statutory rights.
This includes, for example:
-
Engine modifications
-
Removal or replacement of major components
-
Unauthorised repairs
-
ECU modifications
-
Alteration of wiring
-
Modification of the fuel system
-
Rebuilding or dismantling the engine
6. Faulty or Damaged Products
If you believe your outboard motor has arrived damaged or has developed a fault, contact us as soon as possible.
We may ask you to provide:
-
Photographs or videos;
-
Details of the fault;
-
Engine information;
-
Delivery information;
-
Diagnostic information where available.
Depending on the circumstances, we may arrange an inspection, repair, replacement or refund in accordance with the applicable warranty, our contractual terms and your statutory rights.
Please do not dispose of, dismantle or substantially modify the engine before we have had an opportunity to assess the issue.
7. Products Damaged During Delivery
If your engine arrives with visible transport damage:
-
Photograph the packaging before opening it where possible.
-
Photograph the damaged engine.
-
Keep all original packaging.
-
Contact us promptly.
-
Provide the photographs and delivery information requested.
We will assess the issue and, where appropriate, liaise with the delivery or transport provider.
8. Return Shipping
Return transportation arrangements and costs depend on the reason for the return and the applicable terms for the product.
Where a product is being returned because it is faulty, damaged or does not conform to the contract, we will assess the circumstances and arrange the appropriate remedy in accordance with applicable law.
Where a customer is exercising a discretionary or applicable cancellation/return right for reasons unrelated to a fault, the customer may be responsible for return transportation costs where permitted by law and where this has been properly communicated.
Because outboard motors are heavy items, customers should contact us before arranging return transportation.
9. Refunds
Once a returned product has been received and assessed, we will determine the appropriate outcome in accordance with:
-
The product’s applicable return terms;
-
The condition of the product;
-
The reason for the return;
-
Any applicable warranty;
-
Applicable UK consumer law.
Where a refund is due, it will normally be made using the original payment method unless another arrangement is agreed or required by law.
The time taken for the funds to appear in your account may depend on your bank or payment provider.
10. Return of Accessories
If an engine was supplied with accessories, components or equipment as part of the purchase, these should normally be returned with the engine where the return relates to the complete product.
Examples may include:
-
Controls
-
Gauges
-
Propellers
-
Control cables
-
Wiring/components
-
Other accessories specifically included in the product listing
Missing components may affect the return assessment where permitted by applicable law.
11. Products Purchased as Part of a Twin or Multiple-Engine Package
Where multiple engines are sold together as a package, the applicable return terms may apply to the package as a whole or to individual engines depending on the circumstances and product documentation.
Please contact us before returning any engine from a multi-engine package.
12. Change of Mind
Depending on how your purchase was made and the circumstances of the transaction, UK consumer legislation may provide cancellation rights for certain distance contracts.
However, specific rules and exceptions can apply, particularly depending on the nature of the goods and how the transaction was completed.
Customers should contact us promptly if they wish to cancel an online order.
Nothing in this policy is intended to limit statutory consumer rights.
13. Incorrect or Incompatible Purchase
Customers should carefully check the engine’s specifications and compatibility before ordering.
This can include:
-
Horsepower
-
Shaft length
-
Engine dimensions
-
Boat compatibility
-
Controls
-
Steering
-
Electrical connections
-
Mounting requirements
-
Propeller requirements
If you are unsure whether an engine is suitable for your boat, please contact us before purchasing.
A compatibility issue caused by the customer’s own selection does not automatically mean that a product is faulty. Any available return or cancellation rights will depend on the circumstances and applicable law.
14. Warranty Claims
A product may include a separate warranty where this is stated on its product page or sales documentation.
Warranty periods may vary between products.
A warranty is separate from your statutory consumer rights.
Please see our Warranty Policy for details of warranty coverage, exclusions and the process for making a warranty claim.
15. Items That Cannot Be Returned in Certain Circumstances
A return may be refused or adjusted where permitted by law if a product has been:
-
Modified without authorisation;
-
Dismantled substantially;
-
Damaged through misuse;
-
Damaged through incorrect installation;
-
Damaged through improper transportation after collection;
-
Used contrary to supplied instructions;
-
Subjected to abnormal or negligent use.
This does not affect any statutory rights that cannot legally be excluded.
16. Refunds for Cancelled Orders Before Dispatch
If you cancel an order before the engine has been dispatched and you are entitled to a refund, we will process the refund in accordance with the applicable terms and UK consumer law.
If transportation has already been arranged or the engine has already been dispatched, additional considerations may apply.
Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel an order.
17. Exchanges
Exchanges may be considered depending on product availability and the circumstances of the return.
Because our stock consists primarily of individual used engines, an identical replacement may not always be available.
Where an identical replacement is unavailable, we will discuss the available options with you.
18. Statutory Consumer Rights
Nothing in this Returns & Refund Policy affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Where applicable, consumers have rights under UK consumer protection legislation relating to goods that are not as described, not of satisfactory quality or not fit for their intended purpose.
Your statutory rights apply in addition to any contractual return period or warranty offered by us.
